Jingzhou's Education, Health and Science & Technology Undertakings

Jingzhou's educational undertakings developed steadily. As of the end of 2020, there were a total of 1,255 various schools in Jingzhou (excluding primary school teaching points and universities), including 15 secondary vocational schools, 53 senior high schools, 120 junior high schools, 66 nine-year schools, 389 primary schools, 8 special schools and 604 kindergartens. There were a total of 711,200 students at these schools, including 30,600 students at secondary vocational schools, 84,800 students at senior high schools, 147,400 students at junior high schools, 308,000 students at primary schools, 1,236 students at special schools and 139,200 students at kindergartens. There were a total of 53,300 teaching and administrative staff members, including 2,209 staff members at secondary vocational schools, 7,688 staff members at senior high schools, 14,457 staff members at junior high schools, 14,728 staff members at primary schools, 165 staff members at special schools and 14,019 staff members at kindergartens.

Jingzhou kept making progress in health undertakings. As of the end of 2020, there were a total of 3,012 medical and health institutions in Jingzhou, including 69 hospitals, 115 health centers and 85 community health service centers (stations). There were a total of 42,713 staff members at Jingzhou's health institutions, including 33,326 health professionals and 761 epidemic prevention workers. There were a total of 34,208 beds at Jingzhou's health institutions, including 23,215 beds at hospitals, 8,421 beds at health centers and 1,118 beds at community health service centers (stations).

As of the end of 2020, there were 458 high-tech enterprises (including high-tech enterprises, strategic emerging enterprises, high-tech enterprises and IP-intensive enterprises) above the designated size in Jingzhou, up 25 from 2019. Among these enterprises were 422 manufacturing enterprises, 3 high-tech building enterprises and 33 high-tech service enterprises. The added value of Jingzhou's high-tech industries and relevant industries was 33.598 billion yuan, accounting for 14.2 percent of Jingzhou's GDP. The added value of high-tech enterprises above the designated size was 33.556 billion yuan, down 4.3 percent from 2019.

As of the end of 2020, Jingzhou applied for 57 projects under provincial and ministerial science & technology programs with a total fund of 29.45 million yuan, completed the technology achievement transformation of 55 projects, and registered technology exchange contracts with a total value of 6.31 billion yuan, up 29 percent from 2019. There were a total of 60 R&D platforms at the provincial level and above in Jingzhou. Jingzhou had a total of 5,356 authorized patents, up 45.8 percent from 2019, including 240 patents for invention, up 15.9 percent from 2019.
